Black Capped Chickadees Tote Bag
This canvas tote features a reproduction of Eric Nasmith’s 1976 work, Black-Capped Chickadees, and was screen printed in Toronto.
Born and raised in Port Perry, Ontario, Eric Nasmith studied art and art history at Central Technical School in Toronto from 1932-1935 and the Art Institute in Chicago from 1938-1940.
Following the end of World War II, where Nasmith had served as a navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he began working at leading commercial art firms in Toronto. By 1952, he had moved on to start his own business at as a graphic designer and artist.
Nasmith began etchings of his bird series in 1968 and these works garnered much attention and acclaim. Nasmith’s work was informed by his active involvement in amateur ornithology, having belonged to many naturalist clubs in and around the GTA.
This tote bag measures 39.5 x 36.5 cm with handles measuring 25cm. Total length of bag (including handles) measures 65cm.
