More than a show catalogue, Lalakenis brings two important journeys to life: Awalaskenis 1 & 2.

In 2013 renowned Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw artist Chief Beau Dick and companions travelled first from Quatsino to Victoria, and then in 2014 from Vancouver to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Both trips culminated in traditional copper breaking ceremonies, marking the symbolic transference of the burden of colonial violence from Indigenous peoples to colonial governments. With 2016 exhibition content by Beau Dick, and Haida carver Giindajin Haawasti Guujaaw, this book also contains new essays by Wanda Nanibush, Charlotte Townsend-Gault, Tarah Hogue and Shelly Rosenblum.
